Our Philosophy

We believe that children learn and develop in an aesthetically pleasing environment where the teacher has a respectful image of the child. This means that we create purposeful and inspirational spaces for children to engage, interact and play in, that encourage collaboration, communication and exploration. The teachers’ role is to be a co-researcher and co-constructor in the learning process, which allows children time and space to discover their own working theories, explore, problem solve, question and reflect.

We believe in the foundations of the Treaty of Waitangi as well as Te Whāriki, the New Zealand early childhood curriculum, where we recognise that children are rich with wonder and knowledge, and they have their own individual identity and ways of learning. Therefore, we draw upon different approaches to teaching and learning, so that we demonstrate an understanding of children’s holistic growth and development, as well as their cognitive aspects of learning.

We know that children need love, nurture and their interests fostered to be able to flourish. We build on children’s deep curiosity and potential by providing rich learning experiences and opportunities that are inviting, challenging and developmentally appropriate.

We aim to create positive and strong partnerships as we work together toward your child’s goals and aspirations. By creating these responsive and reciprocal relationships between parents, children and teachers, we provide a trusting and secure environment in which the child can learn and grow.

An important part of our philosophy is the Māori concept of tuakana-teina, which values reciprocal learning relationships. This means we encourage children to interact with and learn from each other in a safe environment.

Children thrive in relationships that reflect the Fruits of the Spirit. This is the vision of the gospel and the kingdom of God. Our commitment to God, influences the way we interact and engage with the children and families in our care.
