<image:caption>I can't speak highly enough of DayStar. A beautiful and stimulating environment, amazing communication between teachers and children (and parents alike), loving and providing such a caring place for our very precious little people. My boys are so confident, have so much fun and never want to leave! They are nurtured and encouraged to grow into independent and inquisitive and caring little boys. Thank you DayStar!</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Families - Jessica, Nathan & Bastian</image:title>
<image:caption>Bastian started his first day at DayStar as the youngest at the centre and it has been the most amazing journey to see him grow to become a confident little young man who is excited about learning and exploring. We really value the family feel about DayStar where the teachers know each child intimately and work together with the parent to support their development. It has been heart-warming to see Bastian come home and excited to share new songs, stories, and project that he has learnt during the day. What has been most special is the friendship he has developed with the children and teachers at DayStar. Our sincere thanks to all the teachers and support staff that makes DayStar an environment that instil good Christian values and desire for learning.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Kia Ora. I am the Centre Manager at Daystar. I have completed the Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education from University of Auckland and the Post Graduate Diploma in Business from Unitec. I am originally from India, have lived in several countries, and now call New Zealand home. In my role, I equally enjoy teaching children and mentoring teachers. My teaching philosophy involves forming strong and trusting relationships in order to create a rich learning environment. I am huge believer in the concept of ako, where I not only teach, but also learn from the ākonga/student. In my leisure time, I enjoy travelling, watching movies and spending time with my family.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Privet, Kia ora and Hello! My name is Margarita. I am originally from Russia, where I studied to become a Primary Teacher. However, when I arrived to New Zealand in 2007, I realised that my passion was to work with little children. I studied at Auckland University in 2014 and have a bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education. My previous teaching experience was in the private sector of early childhood and I am so grateful to be now working in Daystar, which has a very homely feel to it. My personal philosophy is based on mutual respect and open trusting communication with the children, parents and teachers. I strongly believe in giving each child an equal opportunity to learn, grow and develop into confident and competent individuals. I hope to combine my knowledge of the Reggio philosophy and Te Whaariki curriculum to support children’s learning journey at Daystar. I am passionate about enhancing children’s curiosity and their sense of wonder in a stimulating and positive environment. In my leisure time, I enjoy spending time outdoors, watching movies and reading fiction books.</image:caption>

I believe that the first five years of life are a period of incredible growth in all areas of a child’s development and I am passionate about children participating in learning experiences that allow them to explore, discover and build social, emotional and language development. I love the honest enthusiasm that children bring to life and love being part of their development. <image:title>Our Story - THEN</image:title>
<image:caption>In 1981 our DayStar villa on View Road was bought by a member of the community, from the neighbouring church now known as Eden Community Church. As a pledge to the community it was decided that the then growing suburb of Mt Eden was in need of quality & heartfelt childcare. Accordingly, it was kindly gifted to a new incorporated society created to serve children and the community.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Story</image:title>
<image:caption>Our lovingly refurbished villa has been a special home to many little ones, since 1981, as they prepare for school and the many wonders of the world. Today, DayStar operates as a non profit organisation, governed by a board and an incorporated society with the ability and desire to focus on our children, our centre and our community. The Daystar board is made up of dedicated, community minded Eden Community Church members. They strive to govern Daystar in line with the legacy set out by previous generations to support and serve local whanau and most specifically tamariki. As a group of professionals with a wide range of skills and interests the board enjoys working with the Daystar team and supporting them to deliver a wonderful environment for the Daystar tamariki. Also of importance to the board is supporting Daystar tamariki’s whanau in times of difficulty or need. The board is driven to see Daystar succeed so that there are funds available to donate to other charities and organisation’s who have a positive impact on local whanau and tamariki. The current Daystar board; Alexis Lam (Marketing) Christina Crawford (Management Liaison) Nick Crawford (Chairperson) Stephanie Cook (Financial Management) The board also includes two parent representatives from the Daystar community. The present members are Nicola Cheeseman and Doel Rout.</image:caption>
